HERCULES TECHNOLOGIES Game Theater XP(tm) drivers for Microsoft(R) Windows 2000 Release Notes and Installation Instructions April 19th, 2001 Overview ======== This file contains the release notes and installation instructions for your Game Theater XP(tm) sound card driver version 2.01 under Windows 2000. Release Notes: ============== - New control panel interface - Automatic PowerDVD audio configuration - Microsoft Internet keyboard now supported - Fix uninstallation problems - DLS soundbank loading improved - Fix headphone mode ACPI issue - Intelligent Quad speakers configuration - Digital In record source added - Fix S/PDIF copy protection issue - Speakers configuration volume caching updated Contents ======== - The "dfgtxp-2k-201.exe" contains all the needed driver files, version 2.01 for Windows 2000, for your Game Theater XP sound card. It also contains this text file which is displayed at end of the extraction process. - The "dsgtxp-2k-201.exe" contains most driver files, version 2.01 for Windows 2000, for your Game Theater XP sound card. You will need to to insert your original Game Theater XP CD Volume 1 during the extraction process so that the MIDI soundbank file can be copied. It also contains this text file which is displayed at end of the extraction process. Installation Instructions ========================= A) Preparing the system: ------------------------ - Upon running the "dfgtxp-2k-201.exe" or "dsgtxp-2k-201.exe" package, the driver files are now located in the default "C:\Program Files\Hercules\audio\Game Theater XP" location (C: being the drive letter where Windows 2000 is installed on your system) or the custom location you selected. You now need to reboot in safe mode. - To reboot in safe mode, simply restart the computer and press the "F8" key immediately after the BIOS Power-On Self Test (POST). This will bring up a menu where you can choose "Safe Mode". Press Enter to start Windows 2000 in safe mode. - Windows will display a warning message stating that it is running in safe mode. Press Enter to continue. Click the "Start" button on the Windows taskbar and select "Run...". Type "devmgmt.msc" and press Enter. The Device Manager window will pop up after a few seconds. - Double-click on the "Sound, video and game controllers" category. Highlight the "Game Theater XP(tm)" device and press Delete. Press Enter to confirm the device removal. Close the Device Manager. - Next, you will need to remove the old installation file(s). Click the "Start" button on the Windows taskbar, click on "Search" and select "For Files or Folders...". In the "Search for files or folders named:" box, type "*.inf" and in the "Containing text:" box, type "cwcwdm.inf". Make sure that "Local harddrives" is selected in the "Look in:" box. In the "Tools" menu, select "Folder Options", click on the "View" tab and make sure that "Show hidden files and folders" is selected in the "Hidden files and folders" section, click OK. Now click on the "Search" button to begin the search. - Once the search is complete, select the file(s) that are located in the "C:\winnt\inf" directory (where "C:\winnt" is the path where Windows 2000 is installed on your system). ************************************************************************* Make sure you do not delete the "cwcwdm.inf" file located in the "C:\Program Files\Hercules\audio\Game Theater XP" location (C: being the drive letter where Windows 2000 is installed on your system) or the custom location you selected when running the driver setup program. ************************************************************************* Press Delete to delete the file(s), click on Yes to confirm file deletion if Windows warns you. - You are now ready to install the updated driver. Reboot the computer in Windows 2000 as usual (i.e. normal mode). B) Installing the updated driver: --------------------------------- - Windows will prompt you with a new hardware found dialog box informing you that the system has detected a Multimedia Audio Controller. Click on Next. - The Found New Hardware Wizard will propose to search for a suitable driver or display a list of the known drivers for the device. Enable "Search for a suitable driver for my device (recommended)" and click on Next. - At the search prompt from Windows, check the "Specify a location" option, click on Next, type in or browse to the "C:\Program Files\Hercules\audio\Game Theater XP" location (C: being the drive letter where Windows 2000 is installed on your system) or the custom location you selected when running the driver setup program, in the dialog box that appears and click on OK. Windows will then specify the path and the name of the folder where the driver is located. Click on Next to continue with driver installation. ************************************************************************ Make sure that you overwrite the newer file(s), if any, for which Windows ask you to confirm replacement. ************************************************************************ - Click on Yes to continue installation when Windows displays a "Digital Signature Not Found" dialog box and click on Finish in the dialog box that appears to complete the setup. - Click on Yes in the next 2 "Digital Signature Not Found" dialog box. - The updated driver is now installed. Although you can immediately use your Game Theater XP sound card, we strongly suggest that you reboot Windows 2000 to complete the new devices installation.
